Revitalisation of our Town

East Sussex, Crowborough Town, Wealden District Councils are working in partnership with the newly formed Crowborough Business Association, The Crowborough Partnership and representatives from the community on plans to enhance the town centre in stages, as well as address aspects of pedestrian and transport issues in Crowborough.

A successful bid for funding was put together by a working party to attract funds from central and local government to finance a pavement and road improvement scheme initially at the Broadway and Croft Road junction but with a view to extending improvements along the High Street to eventually incorporate the junction at Crowborough Cross.

The plan is to bring together community priorities expressed in the Supplementary Planning Design Guidance for our Town Centre, the Crowborough Conservation Area Designation Report and the aspirations of the Crowborough Local Transport Plan Forum (to be included in ESCC’s Local Transport Plan for Crowborough).  It also draws upon the Crowborough Partnership’s ‘Action Areas for the Town Centre’ which have been identified by its Town Centre Group to expand upon some of the proposals in the Design Guidance.

Safeway are aware of the need to be seen as an integral part of town centre development and environment - especially in and around the Fernbank Centre and the immediate High Street and car parking areas  and are keen to use materials and design features that are compatible with those selected by local partners.
